Corrections & Appeals
SJKS treats scholarly publication as open to continued examination. Published work may therefore be clarified, corrected, challenged or reconsidered when verified errors, new evidence or significant concerns arise.
Corrections and Retractions
The Journal may issue:
- Correction — for an error that does not affect the article’s principal findings.
- Corrigendum — for an error originating with the author.
- Expression of Concern — while a significant issue is under investigation.
- Retraction — where findings are unreliable or serious concerns arise, including major error, plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated or manipulated data, or unethical research.
Any such action should follow an appropriate editorial review or investigation.
Publication Record
- Correction, retraction and expression-of-concern notices should be linked to the original article.
- Reasons should be stated clearly and responsibly.
- The original article record should remain accessible and clearly marked, unless removal is required for legal or ethical reasons.
- Changes to the scholarly record should be transparent and should not be made silently.
Responses and Rejoinders
SJKS supports continued scholarly dialogue after publication.
- Responses may be submitted to published articles within 12 months of publication.
- Authors are given an opportunity to provide a rejoinder.
- Responses should engage directly and substantively with the published argument.
Appeals
Authors may appeal an editorial decision where there is evidence of:
- Procedural error;
- Conflict of interest;
- Factual misunderstanding; or
- Unfair or incomplete review.
Disagreement with a reviewer’s scholarly opinion alone is not sufficient grounds for appeal.
Appeals should be submitted within 15 working days of the editorial decision. The appeal may be reviewed by the General Editor or another independent senior editor, who may uphold the decision, seek additional review, or reopen the editorial decision.
Complaints
Complaints concerning publication ethics, misconduct, editorial conduct or published content should be submitted formally to the Journal.
Complaints should be acknowledged within 7 working days and reviewed on the basis of evidence. Serious legal or reputational matters may be referred to the appropriate institutional authority while maintaining editorial independence.
